Davis, Harris Take Initial WBB Players of the Week in 2018
NEW YORK (Jan. 9, 2018) ---
G'mrice Davis of Fordham in Division I and
Gabrielle Harris of FDU-Florham in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Jan. 1-7, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
A 6-2 senior forward from Philadelphia, PA, Davis --- who also was named Atlantic 10 co-player of the week --- averaged 24.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Rams (12-4).
She first posted 18 points and 14 rebounds in Fordham’s 62-51 victory on the road at UMass. Next, she registered a career-high 31 points along with 15 rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Rams came from behind at home to defeat Saint Louis 66-63. Davis was instrumental in that game, going on a personal 12-2 run in the third quarter to help Fordham retake the lead at 50-47.
A 5-7 sophomore guard from South River, NJ, Harris --- who also was named MAC Freedom Conference player of the week --- averaged 26.5 poiints, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Devils (9-4).
Harris first notched 23 points as FDU-Florham cruised past visiting Wilkes 90-59. She then racked up 30 points, a career-best 13 rebounds and a season-high five assists in a 66-63 home win over Misericordia, tallying seven of the Devils final nine points to help seal the victory.
