Cavanaugh, Read Hailed as WBB Players of the Week
NEW YORK (Dec. 19, 2017) ---
Bre Cavanaugh of Fordham in Division I and
Kaitlyn Read of NYU in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Dec. 11-17, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
A 5-8 freshman guard from Allemuchy, NJ, Cavanaugh --- who also was named Atlantic 10 rookie of the week --- averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Rams (7-3). She scored 20 points and had five rebounds in a 67-64 win at St. John’s, then had 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting along with six rebounds and two steals in a 71-62 homecourt victory over Bucknell.
A 5-8 graduate guard from University Park, TX, Read averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.5 steals as the Violets (6-4) posted a pair of road victories. She recorded 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and a game-high six steals in a 71-59 win over Hunter, then had 26 points and eight rebounds in a 65-52 victory over Rutgers-Newark.
