NEW YORK (Feb. 9, 2021) --- Emilija Krista Grava of Wagner and Courtney Warley of Manhattan, as co-winners in Division I, and Sekya Campbell of Drew in Divisions II/III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Feb. 1-7, are unique in that they encompass players from 72 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III. Previous to this week for this season, the MBWA selected one overall Women’s Player of the Week. With all divisions now playing games, the association has reinstituted naming awards in Division I and in Divisions II/III.

A 6-0 junior forward from Lignate, Latvia, Krista Grava --- who also was named Northeast Conference player of the week --- averaged 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 51.9% (14-of-27) from the field in helping the Seahawks (7-2) improve to 7-1 in NEC games with a pair of homecourt victories (62-51, 62-58) over St. Francis Brooklyn.

In the first game on Thursday, EKG, as she is known on Staten Island’s Grymes Hill, posted 15 team co-leading points on 7-of-13 shooting while adding a team-topping nine rebounds plus two blocks.

A 6-3 senior center from West Chester, PA, Warley notched a double-double with game-highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds in leading the Jaspers (8-6) in their only contest last week to a 75-70 MAAC triumph over St. Peter’s. She added three assists while nailing 6-of-11 from the floor and 6-of-9 at the free throw line.

A 5-8 junior guard from Sicklerville, NJ, Campbell --- who also was named Landmark Conference athlete of the week --- opened the Rangers (1-0) season in their only game played last week with a double-double of 23 points and 19 rebounds to help secure a 76-71 road victory at Catholic.

Campbell confirmed Drew’s triumph with two clutch baskets in the final 1:35, along with a big defensive rebound and an ensuing pair of free throws that set the final score with 16 seconds left. She connected on 8-of-13 shots from the field in the game and was 7-of-7 at the free throw line.
