NEW YORK (Feb. 16, 2021) --- Dee Dee Davis of Manhattan in Division I and Justina Cabezas of William Paterson in Divisions II/III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Feb. 8-14, are unique in that they encompass players from 72 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III. At the outset of this season, the MBWA selected one overall Women’s Player of the Week. With all divisions now playing games, the association has reinstituted naming awards in Division I and in Divisions II/III.

A 5-8 junior guard from the Bronx, NY, Davis averaged a team-best 18.5 points with 4.0 rebounds in leading the Jaspers (10-6) to a two-game sweep at Iona. She shot 46.7% (7-of-15) from distance and 80.0% (12-of-15) at the free throw line.

She followed in the second meeting by scoring 11 of her game-high 18 points in a decisive fourth quarter as Manhattan edged the Gaels 48-44. Davis pulled down five rebounds and registered three steals while hitting 3-of-7 shots from beyond the arc and connecting on 9-of-12 at the line.

A 5-10 junior guard-forward from Carlstadt, NJ, Cabezas --- who also was named New Jersey Athletic Conference player of the week --- posted a pair of double-doubles in averaging 17.0 points on 50% shooting (13-of-26) and 15.0 rebounds to go with 3.5 assists as the Pioneers (2-2) swept a home-and-home series against Rutgers-Newark.

Cabezas drained 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in Friday night’s 67-66 last-second win at Rutgers-Newark. On Saturday, she nailed 7-of-11 shots from the floor en route to 18 points and pulled down a hefty 17 boards in a 67-42 win at home. She also dished out six assists.
