Correa Nets Met Women's Player of the Week
 
NEW YORK (Feb. 2, 2021) --- Leilani Correa of St. John's has been named Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
 
The designation, for games played Jan. 25-31, is unique in that it encompass players from 72 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III. This season, however, many schools are not playing basketball or have delayed seasonal starts due to the coronavirus situation, and for this week nominations were only received from Division I and Division II programs.
                
A 6-0 sophomore guard from Manchester, NJ, Correa --- who also was named the Big East Conference player of the week --- averaged 32.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week on the road for the Red Storm (5-9).
 
She started the week on Monday by recording 29 points in an 81-78 overtime loss at Villanova. On Wednesday she matched her career-high with 35 points in helping St. John’s to a 70-53 triumph at Georgetown.
