NEW YORK (April 24, 2019) – Sam Toney of New Jersey City University, for the second consecutive season, has been named the All-Met Division III men’s college basketball Player of the Year by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
Marc Brown of NJCU, for a second time, was selected Coach of the Year.

The All-Met First and Second Team players and the coach of the year will be honored Tuesday, April 30, at the 86th NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott, Tarrytown, NY.
A versatile 6-4 junior forward from Plainfield, NJ, Toney --- who was All-Met Co-Player of the Year in 2018 and also was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference player of the year this past season for a second consecutive time --- averaged 16.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.7 steals in 2018-19. An NABC All-America First Team selection and the coaches’ Atlantic Region player of the year, he shot 40.7% from the floor, 37.9% from 3-point range and 83.9% at the free throw line.
Toney has scored 1,362 points through his junior year --- No. 11 all-time at NJCU --- which represents the most points in the first three years by any Gothic Knight player.
In his 12th season at NJCU (196-130, .601), Brown --- who was named the NJAC coach of the year for the third time in the last seven seasons --- guided the Gothic Knights (20-8) to their third consecutive at-large NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. NJCU won the NJAC regular season title with a 14-4 league record, then lost in the conference championship game. A Siena grad and former pro player who also was named All-Met Coach of the Year in 2013, Brown lives in Union, NJ, with his wife, Marisa, and sons Marc Jr. and Mason.
