FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wright-Foreman, McGuinness Tabbed MBB Players of the Week

NEW YORK (Jan. 15, 2019) --- Justin Wright-Foreman of Hofstra in Division I for the second time this season and Conor McGuinness of Adelphi in Divisions II-III, have been named Men’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The MBWA designations, for games played Jan. 7-13, are unique in that they encompass players from 73 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

A 6-2 senior guard from Queens, NY, Wright-Foreman --- who previously was named MBWA Player of the Week on Dec. 4 --- averaged 29.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in helping the Pride (15-3) extend its winning streak to 12 games and its unbeaten Colonial Athletic Association record to 5-0 with a pair of narrow road victories last week: 93-90 over William & Mary in double overtime and 74-71 over Elon.

Wright-Foreman began the week with a 37-point outburst at William & Mary in which he added seven rebounds and was a perfect 7-of-7 at the free throw lines. He closed the week with 21 points, five rebounds and two assists as Hofstra rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to overtake Elon.

Third in scoring in the NCAA with 26.9 points per game, Wright-Foreman has pushed his career total to 1,864 points. The Pride’s winning streak is the third-longest active surge in the nation and the second-longest winning streak for Hofstra since it elevated to Division I (1966-67).

A 5-9 senior guard from New City, NY, McGuinness averaged 20.0 points and 6.5 assists last week while shooting 56.5% (13-of-23) from the field and 76.9% (10-of-13) at the free throw line to help the Panthers (10-6) clip Assumption 80-79 on the road and upset No. 9 Saint Anselm 98-89 at home.

McGuinness began the week with an all-around 14 points, seven assists and three steals in the triumph over Assumption, then registered several season-best personal totals against Saint Anselm, including 26 points and eight field goals made. He nailed 4-of-8 3-pointers in the latter victory as Adelphi canned 14 treys.
