Davis, Gilmer, Patterson Earn Final WBB Weekly Honors
NEW YORK (Feb. 27, 2018) ---
G’mrice Davis of Fordham and
Alana Gilmer of Marist, as co-winners in Division I, and
Sasha Patterson of LIU Post in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Feb. 19-25, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
The selections represent the final weekly honors being presented by the MBWA during the 2017-18 season. The Met Writers designation is the third this season for Davis, who previously was named Jan. 9 and Jan. 23, and the second for Gilmer, who previously was honored Jan. 30.
A 6-2 senior forward from Philadelphia, PA, Davis averaged 19.5 points and 15.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Rams (21-8), who defeated Duquesne 51-43 on the road and lost to St. Joseph’s 52-50. She recorded 20 points and 19 rebounds at Duquesne, then finished the regular season with 19 points and 12 rebounds at home against St. Joseph’s.
Gilmer, a 6-0 sophomore forward from North Easton, MA, averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Red Foxes (18-12) split their two final regular season games last week, winning 55-45 at Iona and losing at home 68-61 to Niagara. With 10 games reaching 20-plus points this season, Gilmer led Marist with 23 points at Iona and then recorded 20 points and nine rebounds against Niagara.
A senior forward from Brooklyn, NY, Patterson --- who also was named the East Coast Conference co-player of the week --- averaged a double-double of 21.5 points and 15.5 rebounds to help the Pioneers (22-6) produce a 2-0 week and clinch the ECC regular season title. She recorded her league-leading 13th and 14th double-doubles at home last week.
Patterson first registered 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting along with 11 rebounds in a 74-61 victory over Daemen, then cashed in 27 points and 20 rebounds in a 70-62 triumph over Roberts Wesleyan.
