NEW YORK (Feb. 27, 2018) --- Khadeen Carrington of Seton Hall in Division I and Jeffrey Hayden of NYIT in Divisions II-III have been named Men’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Feb. 19-25, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

The selections represent the final weekly honors being presented by the MBWA during the 2017-18 season.

A 6-4 senior guard from Brooklyn, NY, Carrington --- who also was named the Big East Conference player of the week --- averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 52% from the field and 93% at the free throw line during a 2-0 week on the road for the Pirates (20-9).

In Seton Hall’s 89-77 win at Providence, which was suspended Wednesday night due to unsafe court conditions and completed Thursday afternoon, he delivered 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 8-of-8 at the free throw line. In the restart of the suspended game, which was the final 13:03 of the second half, he was 3-for-4 from the floor and 8-for-8 at the line for 14 points. Then in an 81-74 overtime victory at St. John’s, he poured in 22 points, grabbed six boards and issued four assists. Carrington scored Seton Hall’s last six points in overtime and helped hold the Red Storm scoreless in the final 4:20 of the extra frame.

With back-to-back 20-plus efforts, Carrington has scored 20 points or more six times this season.

A 6-4 junior forward from Harlem, NY, Hayden --- who also was named East Coast Conference player of the week --- averaged 32.0 points and 15.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week at home for the Bears (5-25). His scoring output has netted him the current top spot in the ECC with 23.2 ppg this season and represents the fourth-best seasonal average in school history.
