McNeal, Scaife, Joseph Tapped for Weekly WBB Honors
NEW YORK (Feb. 20, 2018) ---
Janae McNeal of Army and
Tyler Scaife of Rutgers, as co-winners in Division I, and
Monique Joseph of Old Westbury in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Feb. 12-18, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
The MBWA selection is the second this season for Scaife, who previously was honored on Dec. 12.
A 5-9 senior guard from Little Rock, AR, Scaife led the Scarlet Knights (19-9) to a 63-50 triumph at Wisconsin in their only game of the week. She scored a game-high 25 points and helped RU erase an 11-point second-quarter deficit. It was her 16th game this season scoring 20 or more points, as she shot 50% (10-of-20) from the field in addition to registering a season-high four steals to go along with four assists and four rebounds.
A 5-9 senior guard from Spotsylvania, VA, McNeal averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 58.6% from the field (17-of-29) in a 2-0 Patriot League week for the Black Knights (14-12).
She began the week with her first double-double of the season, putting up a game-high 25 points and a season-best 12 rebounds in a 66-57 victory over Holy Cross. Defensively, she notched a season-high five steals in just 28 minutes of action. McNeal followed with a team-high 16 points and five rebounds in a 55-50 win over Lehigh.
A 5-8 junior guard-forward from Elmont, NY, Joseph averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 steals, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 2-0 Skyline Conference week on the road for the Panthers (21-3).
She recorded a game-high 18 points on 56.3% shooting (9-of-16), along with five rebounds, five steals and four assists in a 92-53 win over Yeshiva. Next she produced a career-high 27 points on 66.7% shooting from the field (12-of-18) to go with nine rebounds, eight steals and four assists in a 75-59 regular season finale victory over Mount Saint Vincent. The Skyline leader in steals and steals per game, she helped Old Westbury clinch the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament.
