Davis, Drogsler Selected WBB Players of the Week
NEW YORK (Feb. 14, 2017) ---
G’mrice Davis of Fordham in Division I and
Kristen Drogsler of Caldwell in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Feb. 6-12, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
The MBWA selection is the second this season for Drogsler, who previously was named Met Divisions II-III Player of the Week on Dec. 20..
A 6-2 junior forward from Philadelphia, PA, Davis posted her 17th and 18th double-doubles of the season, and remained ranked second in all Division I rebounding categories, in a 2-0 week at home for the Rams (18-9).
She piled up 15 points and 16 rebounds across 38 minutes in a 44-39 win over St. Joseph’s, then followed with 12 rebounds and 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, plus three assists, in just 29 minutes during a 74-43 victory over UMass.
A 5-10 junior guard from Middle Village, NY, Drogsler --- who also was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the week --- averaged 29.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.0 blocks in a 2-0 week on the road for the Cougars (20-4). She shot 63.6% from the field (21-of-33), including 11-of-19 from downtown.
Drogsler racked up 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and three blocks in an 82-60 victory at Nyack. She then posted a lofty double-double with 33 points and 11 rebounds, while adding eight assists and three blocks, in an 88-50 win at Philadelphia.
