Walker, Sire Earn WBB Players of the Week
 
NEW YORK (Jan. 10, 2017) --- Jade Walker of St. John’s in Division I and Katie Sire of Montclair State in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
 
The designations, for games played Jan. 2-8, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
 
A 6-2 senior forward from Maplewood, NJ, Walker averaged 20.7 points on 60.9% shooting (28-of-46) from the floor along with pulling down 7.7 rebounds in leading the Red Storm (11-4) to a 3-0 week.
 
Walker began the week by notching a career-high 24 points in a 65-48 victory at Xavier and closed the trio of games with a new personal best of 32 points to go with nine rebounds in a 70-64 triumph over Marquette. In between she posted six points, two blocks and seven rebounds playing just 24 minutes in a 62-41 road win over Butler.
 
A 5-10 junior guard from Hazlet, NJ, Sire --- who also was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference player of the week --- averaged 25.5 points on 67.9% shooting (19-of-28) from the field, along with 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists as the unbeaten Red Hawks (13-0) posted a 66-49 win over Cortland and a 77-63 victory over NJCU.
 
Sire began her week with a career-high 29 points to go with six rebounds, five steals and three assists against Cortland. Two nights later she registered 22 points, nine rebounds and two blocks as Montclair pulled away in the second half against New Jersey City with a 25-12 third quarter.
