FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Robinson, Schettino Selected Men's Players of the Week

NEW YORK (Jan. 24, 2017) --- Justin Robinson of Monmouth in Division I and Frank Schettino of Staten Island in Divisions II-III have been named Men’s Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Jan. 16-22, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

The MBWA selection is the second this season for Schettino, who previously was named Met Divisions II-III Player of the Week on Jan. 10.

A 5-8 senior guard from Lake Katrine, NY, Robinson --- who also was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the week --- was instrumental in a 3-0 week for the Hawks (16-5). He netted 68 points for a 22.7 ppg average, shot 48.7% from the field and 52.9% from 3-point range, while adding 11 rebounds, 14 assists and six steals. His week included a pair of four-point plays.

Robinson’s stretch of games included 21 points and a team-high eight assists in topping Canisius 76-72 on the road as MU moved into first place in the MAAC. He erupted for 27 points in an 82-71 homecourt victory over Manhattan, including nailing 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, and posted 20 points on 6-of-8 from the field in just 22 minutes of action in a 91-49 triumph over Fairfield, which is Monmouth’s largest margin of victory (42 points) in program history over a Division I opponent.

A 5-11 senior guard from Staten Island, NY, Schettino had a record-setting week in leading the Dolphins (13-6) to three victories, including two wins in CUNY Athletic Conference play. In three games he averaged 23.7 points, 11 rebounds and 7.7 assists.

Schettino tied his own single-game school record with 43 points in a 78-74 come-from-behind road win over CCNY. Also, he is the only NCAA Division III player in the nation with two triple-doubles this season, achieving that feat in an 84-67 road victory over John Jay in which he had 17 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists. Schettino opened the week with a double-double, registering 11 points, 10 rebounds and a game-high six assists in a 76-66 triumph over Kean.
