McKnight, Stanley Hailed as Men's Players of the Week
NEW YORK (Jan. 17, 2017) ---
Quincy McKnight of Sacred Heart in Division I and
Jamail Stanley of Old Westbury in Divisions II-III have been named Men’s Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Jan. 9-15, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
A 6-3 sophomore guard from Bridgeport, CT, McKnight --- who also was named the Northeast Conference player of the week --- averaged 35 points on 53.3% shooting from the field along with 6.5 rebounds and four assists last week as the Pioneers (8-11) registered a pair of NEC road victories, 87-75 over St. Francis Brooklyn and 112-110 in triple overtime over Bryant.
In the win at St. Francis, McKnight posted a game-high 26 points, his seventh 20-plus effort this season. In the 3OT victory at Bryant, he became the first Pioneer in almost five years to score above 40 points, amassing 44, including 13 points in the overtimes. He notched the tying basket in the second overtime to send the game into a third extra session.
A 6-3 senior guard from Syracuse, NY, Stanley --- who also was named Skyline Conference player of the week --- posted game-highs of 31 points (9-of-15 FG, 13-of-16 FT), 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals in leading the Panthers (6-7) in their only game of the week to an 89-72 victory at New York Maritime.
Stanley was previously named MBWA Divisions II-III Player of the Week this season on Dec. 13.
